Some bars chase trends. Frenchman's Pub on East 66th Street lets the trends come and go while it stays exactly what it is: a true neighborhood dive. The carpet has seen some things, the Christmas lights stay up all year, and nobody's in a hurry, including you. Grab a cold beer, rack up a game of pool or plunk a few quarters into the pinball machine, and settle in.
The real reason to go, though, is the burgers. They're the kind of thick, griddled, no-nonsense burgers that dive bars do better than anywhere else, and they pair perfectly with a basket of cheese curds or onion rings. Prices are friendly, the staff is friendlier, and the whole place feels like a time capsule from a Richfield that never really went away.
Go when you've got time to linger. That's the point.
